#34 The Jezebel Gap: Who Will Rise Up to the Calling?

There is an entire generation of young girls watching. Observing. Imitating.
A role model will form them one way or another; the only question is who will influence them the most.
This is not a preventative warning about some mystical evil hovering on the horizon. The evil is already operating and already shaping countless lives. The question under consideration is not whether these girls will be discipled by someone. They will be. The question is whether the women of God will answer the call before the world answers it for them.

The Jezebel Gap
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” —1 Corinthians 15:33
Nothing can replace the calling of a mother, but motherhood was never intended to be the sole calling of feminine influence.
Ruth had Naomi. Mary had Elizabeth. These are providential relationships that the Lord uses to guide His people.
But when no such woman is available in all of Israel, the girls will follow Jezebel.
Aunts, cousins, and grandmothers are standing passively by while these girls — who crave a role model with a hunger they may not even be able to name — turn to whoever offers one, whether it be celebrities or online influencers.
Churches, which are to be a foundation for influence, are more and more filled with women who look like the world — and the preachers are silent about it.

A Neglected Remedy
“That they may teach the young women…” —Titus 2:4a
We emphasize the “Go ye therefore”, while neglecting the “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”
We promote the value of motherhood but neglect the years of molding needed in a young girl’s life.
Are we to leave these young girls to their mothers alone while they naturally imitate other women around them, especially those closer to their age? Or should we follow the Scriptures and make all women in the churches fit for such a purpose?
The Bible says:
“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” —Titus 2:3-5.
The specifics on what godly women in churches are to teach the younger girls are these…
That they may teach (train) the young women to:
be sober — do the women around our daughters fill more of their minds and time flipping through their Bibles or scrolling on their phones?
to love their husbands — are the women in their lives capable of demonstrating this without hypocrisy or are they on their second marriage while their first husband is still living? (Romans 7:2-3)
to love their children — have the women had children out of wedlock, scarring their own child with The Father Wound?
To be discreet — are they modest in appearance, conduct, and speech, or are they covered in tattoos and wearing clothing that draws attention to themselves?
chaste — do they model purity in all things or are they identical with the unregenerate?
keepers at home — do they embrace God's design for the home and family, or have they adopted the world's priorities?
good — are they following Christ and actively teaching and training younger women, or do they assume influence can happen from a distance simply by "living as a Christian"?
obedient to their own husbands — have young girls in churches been taught the specifics of being a godly wife?
This is a twofold call for women in Christ. Be the kind of woman these young girls can imitate, and take on the role of actively shaping these girls’ lives.

Conclusion
“Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” —1 Peter 3:6
Who will your daughter look up to? Her mother, yes — but who else? What women fill the pews around her, sit at your table, appear at your family gatherings? They are listening, they are learning, and they will be taught by someone.
If the New Testament command to be a holy role model is neglected today, then it will certainly be neglected in the next generation.
Who will rise up?
